WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE SMOKIES

⚠️ Insider Alert: Prescribed Burns in the Smoky Mountains

The National Park Service will conduct prescribed burns on approximately 423 acres in Wear Cove Gap and Lynn Hollow areas from March 25 through March 31, weather permitting. These burns aim to reduce wildfire risks and maintain healthy ecosystems. Temporary road and trail closures will be in effect for visitor safety.

During prescribed burns, drivers near affected areas should reduce speed, avoid stopping on roads, roll up windows if smoke is present, and turn on headlights for safety.

THOUGHTS FROM THE SMOKIES

INSIDER SECRETS

I Will Always Love You Music Festival

If you’re planning to visit Dollywood this week, here’s a timing trick many experienced visitors use.

Most guests rush to the park right at opening, which means the first two hours often see the longest ride lines of the day. But during spring festivals like the I Will Always Love You Music Festival, crowds spread out later as people stop for shows, food stands, and live music.

🔥The insider move: arrive mid-afternoon instead of first thing in the morning.

You’ll often find shorter wait times and better availability for evening shows as families with small kids start leaving for dinner.

Another Tip: If you want photos around Dollywood without heavy crowds, visit during the last hour before closing. Many guests head out early, and the park can feel surprisingly relaxed.

LOCAL TIPS

  • GSMNP visitation trends…visitor numbers have declined from a peak of over 14 million in 2021 to about 11.5 million last year, returning to pre-pandemic levels.

  • Park Safety: Visitors are advised to be aware of prescribed burn areas and any temporary closures or restrictions for their safety during these forest management activities.
