⚠️ Insider Alert: Trail Closures Due to Increased Bear Activity
Following three bear-related incidents at Ramsey Cascades Trail this past weekend, including aggressive behavior and backpack thefts, the National Park Service has closed Ramsey Prong Road and Ramsey Cascades Trail while monitoring bear activity.
The Abrams Falls Trail and access road, previously closed due to similar incidents, have reopened following no recent bear sightings.
Visitors are reminded to maintain a safe distance of at least 50 yards from bears.

Rehabilitation Work at Bullhead Trail
Starting May 4, the Bullhead Trail will be closed Monday through Thursday (excluding federal holidays) through November 19 for extensive trail improvements. The work includes repairing tread surfaces, improving drainage, building stone steps and retaining walls, and removing hazards to enhance hiker safety.
LOCAL TIPS
Visitor Safety: March had a surge in emergency incidents, including backcountry rescues. Visitors are urged to plan carefully, carry necessary gear, and stay within their limits while hiking. Note: Cell phone coverage is limited in backcountry areas.
Parking Passes: Parking passes are required in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park for vehicles parking longer than a few hours. Plan accordingly to avoid fines.
